Tokyo International Robot Exhibition

actroid_booth_babe.jpgThe biennial Tokyo International Robot Exhibition opend on November 28th at the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre in Ariake.

Humanoid robots again are attracting attention. Actroid, who appeared at the Aichi International Expo in Green uniform, is now appearing in a Trade Show appropriate uniform.

Kimono-clad dancing "Eco-robots" combined cutting-edge technology with traditional performing arts and are available at 120,000 yen ($1,004) each.

Nearly 200 companies and organizations have displays at the exposition which continues until December 3.

Joe Engelberger, the father of modern robotics, emerged exasperated from a visit to the show however. "These are toys that are being made," he said during a 'oh heaven help me' plea to an audience of scientists and industry representatives. He feels that "care giving" robots need more emphasis, though he does admit "I've recently become an octogenarian and I'd ask you, please, hurry up." [2]
