On the IT Discuss list, Garrett Langlois offers this example of "meta" academic computing - students studying computers and computer culture ...
For anthropological and sociological observations of gaming and "geek culture" through the medium of Massive Multi-player Online Role Playing Games (MMORPGs), specifically World of Warcraft. These papers were written by students at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. The course they were written for is Communication 3344: Games for the web, instructed by Dr. Aaron Delwiche.
Anyway, I thought some of you might really get a kick out of these:
